As the notoriously most hectice high school year wraps up, I'm ecstatic to share some new updates for Hearts and Hooks!
Some major updates:
I've recently secured a collaboration with Hats and Peas to crochet and donate octopi for baby blankets. The mission of Hats and Peas is to provide comfort for babies in need and I'd love to contribute to such a cause by crocheting cute octopi!
What's really interesting is that the tentacles of the octopus mimic the umbilical cord, which can serve as a comforting agent for babies.
Recently, I was also able to fundraise at a local pickleball charity event in partnership with the Commack Community Alliance for breast cancer awareness, sponsored by the Survivor's Park Charitable Foundation. SPCF supports those with breast cancer or those with loved ones battling cancer. Thus, for this event, I prepared about 25 handmade keychains, ranging from pink and red breast cancer awareness keychains, as well as American flag themed hearts. Overall, I was able to make several sales and raise over $30. Even though it wasn't much, I was still glad to contribute to a cause and plan to sell the rest of my keychains during breast cancer awareness month, which will be coming up this October!
Below, I've attached some photos of my charity event as well as an octopi to be donated to the Hats and Peas organization. In addition to these, I'm planning to donate several practical items such as scarves and tote bags to Long Island Coalition for the Homeless very soon.
I'm also thinking of expanding this initiative to a group of peers who also support the cause of helping our friends in need. Overall, I'm excited for this summer and what's in store for Hearts & Hooks!
